Till mina norska vänner: Skata betyder skjære

25/9 2010 kl. 04.15

"In the summer cottage. When I walk down from the road there is a magpie coming toward me. It comes right up to my feet. It looks hurt. It jumps right up to me without the least fear. I have a feeling that I have heard of this magpie before. It's actually very hurt. It is so intimate that I put my foot on it, more or less on purpose, to put an end to it. My foot is on its body, but head is free. I take away my foot before neck breaks, it is something with the way it looks at me that makes me stop. I look at the magpie, which now lies on its side on the grass. So I say "What's your name?" And the magpie answer hoarsely, "What's your name?" The answer is quite clear even if it is hoarse: The magpie mimic me perfectly. I say a few other words and sentences to test it, and each time it repeats flawlessly but hoarsely. I'm starting to regret that I stepped on it. It looks at me and blood comes out of its beak. I pick up the camera to get a short clip for the blog [my other blog] and as proof to all that I have to tell about this, but it is certainly too late. The magpie just lay there and look at me without repeating my words. Mom, E and E show up. I tell them that the magpie was talking. We are some distance away and while I tell them, I see how the magpie coughs until blood and guts spurts in a cascade out of the beak. I understand that it is the end of the magpie. E wants to go up to it but I stop him, you never know with birds, they can have diseases. I really regret that I stepped on it. There are a couple of other nosy animals there as well: A cat and two other birds, but they take nearly as special as the magpie. "
